Portable Entertainment for Your Desktop – Audiovox Fpe1078
I’ll never get my work done again in a timely manner. That is because sitting on my desk is an Audiovox FPE1078 portable LCD television with built-in DVD player. I searched long and hard for a tiny LCD with a DVD player. It seems only Coby and Audiovox make this type of product, and after much research, I opted for the Audiovox model and purchased it from Amazon.com for 9.
Setup was a snap. In just a few minutes, the silver box was up on its stand and plugged into the AC outlet. Cable hookup is via standard F-type coax and plugs right in. I powered it up and it’s ready to go.
The silver LCD display measures a nice 7.8″ diagonally, with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The dimensions of the entire unit are 10.75″ wide by 7″ high by 3″ deep. Weight is a mere 4 pounds.
Setup was a snap, and the multifunctional DVD also plays audio CDs when you feel like popping in some music. A credit-card sized remote always gets lost under my paperwork, but the unit is always within arms reach.
DVDs are loaded from the right side via a slot, and the mechanism is smooth and effortless. DVD playback is quick, and switching between DVD and cable is a press of a button. No complicated menus to deal with.
One thing to note though, the built in NTSC tuner is analog, so pulling aerial reception next year will not be possible. But in the meantime, if you want to add a little life to your desk, or even the kitchen counter, this unit is the perfect addition.
